Cakau Haara

Hows it going guys, so I have to admit it has been a while since I posted anything! But unfortunately, time isn’t on our side. Finals for this semester are just around the corner and there are heaps of things that we all need to get sorted with our courses and that!
So yesterday was a great day for us, I along with a few other members of the CTS sort of spread our wings abit and became founding members of the new environmental group (under WWF) called the Cakau Haara (CH), which directly translates to Coral (Fijian) and Green (Hindi). We came up with this name because we plan to raise awareness on various environmental issues from coral bleaching to logging, hence Cakau or coral to signify our marine work and Haara or green to signify our work on the land.
Yesterday was our first official meeting. We sat down and planned our objectives for the rest of the year. I have to admit here, I am pretty excited about this. We’re young, full of energy and passion for saving the environment and best of all committed. Our plans included everything from recycling paper, to promoting environmentalism through theatre and art in schools all over Suva. We plan upcoming projects at the Pacific Youth Festival in July and the Hibiscus in August. Hopefully everything goes to plan.
So basically, a break down for you, members of the CTS have now formed the CH.......nothing but fun and great things up ahead!

A possible Oppurtunity

So today was a pretty great day......me and a couple of the CTS members went to this place in Nakasi, called Wainibuku......we got up at 8 then got the 9am bus there, was there at like ten, had like a ten minute walk from the main road to this house.....you're probably wondering, why? well we went there to teach the kids there aged between 7 and 15, how to read and that.....dude it was GREAT!!!! its amazing how we take literacy for granted, when really, there are heaps of people in Fiji, and around the world for that matter that cant read and write.......todays experience was very humbling, im glad i had proper education growing up and i know the pleasures of opening up a book and escaping into a mythical and possibly "real' (def. up for debate) world.......todays turn out weren't as huge as before, we had like 12 kids there.....but still you gotta start somewhere right? anyway, because our association is all about rasing awareness about environmental issues, i think this would be a great oppurtunity for the CTS to spread the word of a greener furture to this "very willing to learn" children.......i mean what better wat to save the planet then teach this kids Habits that'll will save the planet one day.....i dont know, what do you think?

and then......

aite so nothing much happening lately with the C.T.S.....still waiting on that ONE more person to sign that DARN letter so we can lodge.........hopefully real soon aye!!!

yesterday a couple of the CTS members and i, and several other youths concerned about the environment, carried out an embassy tour......it was GREAT!!!!

what we did was deliver letters addressed to the high commissioners of various embassies in Suva........the letter was drafted by the youth in Bonn........and what happened was, youths from all over the world had the exact same letters and delivered them to their local embassies.....anyway, the letters pretty much stated that we were aware of everything that was happening at the UNFCCC....and was wondering what they were doing about it.....pretty awesome!!!!

till next time!!!

peace, love and all things pure!

teething problems - Community Theater Society

ok so as expected there has been a couple hiccups on the way.......because there's so many of us and we all have really busy schedules on campus, it aint that easy to get together and actually set up the association. GOOD NEWS though, we have our constitution set up already, we have about 19 of the 20 members' signatures, so all we have to do is get the final person to sign, lodge the constitution along with the association application letter and then wait on the USP student association to get back to us. cant wait!!!! the association which we have decided to call "The Community Theater Society" will concentrate on things like promoting environmental awareness, culture, and many other things, through the use of song, music, dance and theater!!! sounds exciting right? But it will also be alot of hard work, we will have to manage our time well, and try to juggle our lectures with rehearsals! bleh, but its a great thing that the people that make up the association are all hard workers, who love challenges and commit 110% to anything they undertake....so yeah....wish us luck!!!
